To,

The Divisional Railway Manager,

Respected Sir,

Sub : Rude /Uncultured behaviour and harassment in the hands of your TTE and unjust refusal to occupy our confirmed Berths.

With reference to the above, please permit me to bring to your kind notice my tale of woes and horrid experience while travelling from Yeshwanthpur to Hubli.

1) I am a School Teacher residing at the above said address. I had electronically booked 2 tickets under Tatkal category for my self and my son Chi. Sadanand for journey by Train No. 16535- Solapur Express vide PNR No. 4********6 for travel from Yeshwanthpur-Bangalore to Hubli on 21-6-2012. Since I had booked e-ticket, I had given my I-T PAN while doing so.

2) Having boarded the Train in Yeshwanthpur, we had occupied our respective seats no. 007 and 008 in the Compartment No.S-8.

3) The TTE in charge of our compartment (Name unknown since he was not wearing any Badge on his person) in Tumkur demanded from us to produce the ticket and then Original IT PAN Card. I had carried with me the photocopy of the PAN Card and the Original Voters’ ID Card issued by the Election Commission of India, which he refused to see and suddenly grew angry and started shouting at the pitch of his voice demanding Rs. 1800/- as illegal gratification to allow us to continue our journey in the same compartment/berth. In the meanwhile my E-Ticket was already with him. He threatened us of throwing out of the Train and handing over us to the Police as though we were criminals. Having handed over the E-ticket to him and being a lady, I was into a great shock and trauma. Adding to my consternation and chagrin, with the help of a male police constable , the TTE succeeded in ensuring that we got down from that compartment. Having no other alternative, we had to board a General Compartment by buying a fresh ticket which was already fully packed and spent the whole night standing/sleeping on the Floor before we got down in Hubli.

4) I don’t know as to why I had to undergo this horrifying experience and for what crime I was punished in an inhuman and uncivilized manner by your TTE. Sir, I strongly suspect that since I had refused to dole out Rs. 1800/- to him, he retributively ensured that I was put to great inconvenience and disgrace and shame in front of other passengers.

5) In view of the foregoing facts, , I seek and insist upon your kind self that justice to be done to me as under :

a) refund the cost of the E-tickets which I had incurred

b) award harshest possible punishment to the said TTE and ensure that he desists from being unmannerly, more so with women passengers,

c) the TTE tenders unconditional apologies to me in writing and

d) Award suitable compensation to me for all that I suffered for no fault of mine.

Sir, I eagerly look forward to receiving your early response in the matter.

Thanking you,

Yours faithfully,

Ranjanatai. N

I believe, every genuine indian citizen in his life has faced this situation of harassment by some or the other public servant.

Their should be some mechanism which can keep this culprits under control. Like RTI activists, every segment of services, should have a selfless activist, whose name & number should be publicized at every nuke & corner of the nation.

Any other innovative suggestion shall be appreciated.
