I have purchased Nokia Lumia 520 on 26/11/2013 in India as a gift for my Wife. (Invoice attached)
The nature of my job doesn’t allow me to be in India for the whole year. As a result I need to travel to abroad frequently during a financial year. My wife also accompanies me during my abroad travel.
On March 27th I moved to United Kingdom for one of my long term project assignment. Unfortunately the power button of the cell phone Lumia 520 stopped working on 13/04/2014. I searched in internet to find out the details about the problem. I realised this is a common problem in Nokia Lumia 520.
Then I contacted Nokia online service support who has diverted me to the local Nokia support centre. As I stay in York the nearest Nokia service centre to me is:
15 Foss Islands Rd
York
North Yorkshire
YO31 7UL
Phone: 01904 689999
When I visited the service centre and shown the phone to them they conveyed me that this is a common problem for the handset (Lumia 520) and told me they will fix the same for free as the phone is still under warranty. Later when they checked in the system they found that the phone is purchased from India and they informed me that the phone will not be covered under warranty in United Kingdom and will be charged £24.95 to repair the same.
Looking at the cost of repair I thought of getting a new phone for her, However as this was a gift my Wife was not at all ready to buy another phone. There was no other alternative left with me to pay and get my phone repaired as in a new place I cannot afford to stay without our cell phone working. This cost me £24.95 (cell repair charge) + £20 (to reach the service centre) (Invoice for the repair attached)
Can you imagine in a new place it was so difficult for me to search for the Nokia service centre and reach there? I had gone through so much pain and tension because of the issue with Nokia phone. Also lost my money unnecessarily as my phone was under warranty but still I need to pay them the amount.
I realised for a person like me who travels outside the country frequently Nokia is not the right option. I wanted to highlight the issue to you as there may be many customers like me who are going through the same pain which I went through.
I will never suggest my friend or relative to buy Nokia/Microsoft phone.
