I was travelling from Coimbatore to Trichy with my wife and kid of age 1 year(Mangalore express-6108) on 8th November 2010. Seat no 15 and 22 in S8 were alloted for us. 15 is lower berth(side) and 22 is upper berth. Since my kid feels sleepy I asked the lady who was sitting in the seat no 16 to go up, but that lady and her relative started to make conversation. And afterwards TTR told that there is a rule that the berth should be used from 9 PM onwards only.
If this is the rule in Indian Railways, then why you should mention SLEEPER CLASS, and SECOND SITTING CLASS. What is the difference between this?
And, also we are paying high to relax and travel, if it is not then why are you getting high pay?
My question is,
1) if a passenger starts from Mangalore by 11 AM and he/she is travelling, is that so he/she should not use the berth for sleep till 9 PM?
2) Why you are booking sleeper class in the day time train?
3) Example, Guruvayur express comes to Trichy at 2 PM and reaches Chennai by 9.30 PM, if a passenger must follow your rule, then does he/she should sleep only half an hour??
4) We can see, loaded advertisement boards in front and around why don't you STICK THE BILLS for such a hard rule?
5) We can hear in the station Happy journey, when a passenger travels after 6 AM and before 9 PM, it won't be a Happy journey for him, it will a Horrible journey.
If the rule can't be changed, kindly stick the bills in the compartment, so that the passenger will not argue each other.

This is the worst rule i have come across while travelling! One person's need to sit through his journey should not force others to do the same ! Its irritating when the sole purpose of a sleeper class is disturbed with sucha rule.

I was traveling from quilon to mangalore with my family my journey hour is 12pm to 10pm we had 4 sleeper class tickets.actually we had late night programs so that we want to sleep.but the problem is people are taking unreserved ticket and sitting in our compartment (sleeper)our compartment is filled with unreserved people.this was seen in my life several times. We cannot sleep and we cannot sit properly.this is the condition in sleeer compartment. There is no railway police to control this and TTR is also somewhere in the train there is no mobile number also.we are paying for sleeer class and sitting like a animal in train our slogan is "sab ka saath sab ka vikas" and "digital india" but what is use.
I strongly agreed this complaint bcoz I booked first time in train 3ac coach berth for comfortable journey from shirdi to pune to my parents. My mother got side lower birth and she had back pain problem. The upper birth person not allowed to sleep whole day and TTR not help to us. What is the rules is this ? And why we pay more than for seat compartment
I travel a lot in trains. If the above mentioned case happens to you then show them the rule that you can pay rupees 5 or 7 and reserve sleeping accommodation between 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. But again this does not mean you harass other people.

Agreed. It is simply unfair to be travelling by 3AC and not allowed to sleep. The sole reason a person looks for a sleeping berths is because they want to relax during travel and be ready and charged up for their next stop. I genuinely and with utmost respect, request the #indianrailways to change the sleeping rules. One should be able to sleep on a sleeping berth whenever required.

Yes I am agree with this. What about those people who want to sleep on his/her birth between 6am to 9pm. Today same thing happened with me. An unknown person who got sideupper told me to not sleep on my sidelower. I really want to sleep bcoz I didn't sleep properly at night. I started my travel from 5:30 am and this thing happened with me at 6am. And that person didn't allow me to sleep even his sideupper. I was frustrated with that bad conversation with that person. If I got side lower then it should be fully allowed to me. If I am sitting on my birth on that time that person can come and sit on sidelower. People should know about that.
Yes i also agree about the sleeping rules in reservation has to change by the board - as what they decide in the night time so also they have to decide in the day hour I.e. can be between 1 pm to 5 pm.
Sorry instead of typing they argued that we can't use sleeper coach in day time but I typed it as can use in day time

But the person traveling in lower birth didn't allow us to use our middle sleeper seat by arguing that we can't use sleeper coach in day time. hence now I couldn't able to comfort my grandma in her Journey.she had underwent appendix operation few years ago. I feel I wasted money. Sad :-(
My question is that,
I know it's a rule but why do you charge sleeper tariff even in day hours. It is NOT an ETHICAL way of use. So kindly consider this as serious. Many are there with such complaints.

We are paying for sleeper class (Rs.385)but we not even relax for a Minute in a 5 hours of journey becoz f side lower.how railway decide the sleeping time of a person...tat aftr 9 PM only u can use ur berth....wat type of rule is tis?? Then y r giving ticket for high in sleeper (I used it as second class(RS.160))??...only.....

I and my father were coming from Pune and due to emergency of journey we have to adjust through the same birth but suddenly a person having reservation on seat number 24 side upper came and argued with us that he can sit at lower birth 23 till 9 pm as it was the rule. But who has given him the right to argue with people especially when they themselves are travelling with great trouble. What kind of rule is this in Indian railways? If this is the rule then why are you affording seats to two people by taking fine and later troubling them also. Why are we paying fine to argue with someone for a single birth and why are these made as sleeper it should be secondaries for all trains. We will sleep as per other people's need?? If this is so then you should stop your train service. It's too annoying for people who are travelling long distance.

I was reading this, today as I met with the same incident today people are happy while sleeping overnight and they claim the side birth for entire day my question is if railway gives side birth as an sitting chair then why we are charging high..
