I wanted to port-in my (prepaid) number into Idea Cellular Limited and for this purpose, I had submitted Unique Porting Code and filled up requisite forms at Idea hub in Kolkata New Alipore on the 27th December 2011. The customer care person who helped me doing this is: Mr. Sahadeb, contact number 90880 68046.

UPC is valid for 15 days and today I'm on the 10th day of the validity, the code will expire in just 5 more days.... I had called up Mr. Sahadeb and he replied my MNP is "under process".

Now my question is, how long does it take to port a number? How long is a processing time? It didn't happen in 10 days, how can I be sure that it will be done in the next 5 days before the UPC expires?

What's going on? After submitting porting request, do I have to start hectic calling to Idea people or else it will be "under process" until the validity ends? Then I have to start the process all over again? Costs double at my end, no service rendered for that? MNP cost is Rs. 19, I've paid Rs. 56 for this purpose, God knows what that extra Rs. 37 is for! I'm not complaining about that, but at least get my work done within validity period, can I expect this or not?

A note of grievance has been filed with the Deptt. of Telecom on today's date (6th Jan '12) and further follow up will be posted to them accordingly.
