I purchased a Sony XPERIA Z1 Compact on 20th May 2014. It came with a Kitkat ROM. When I received the phone, I realized this phone is literally useless as it does not allow applications to write on teh SD card. I could not perform many operation because of this issue. Some of those are running email app, navigation, backup/restore etc. I could not realize until I bought this phone. Upon some research I found that this is an inherent problem of google android ROM which Sony has adopted. The only solution to this problem was to root the phone and modify platform.xml file to allow apps to write on the SD card. After this I rooted and broke the phone. Then I took this phone to Sony Service Center in Kolkata Saltlake (Technoplaza). They said that since the phone has been rooted, the warranty is void. They also said that the rooting process has damaged the PCB and beyond repair. I asked for a solution. They said the phone can only be exchanged with a new one against some nominal cost.
I submitted the phone to service center on 30th June. After that I called up at least 20 times to know the status. On 14th, a person from service center called me and told me that the phone can be exchanged with rooted phone and 33% of the MRP.
My complaints -
1. Why does Sony take 14 days just to let the customer know the solution. This is absolutely not acceptable from a company like Sony
2. Why does Sony keep the bootloader open to unlock and keep the developer option open when they say rooted phone void the warranty? This is definitely to provoke people to root the phone to meet their need and leaves a possibility for those customers to buy another who breaks the phone during rooting process.
3. How Sony says the rooting breaks the PCB? Do they feel customers are illiterate?
4. Why Sony is selling such useless phones where SD card cannot be used properly?

I finally have successfully recovered with a custom ROM. Thanks to android developers for their support.
I suggest to all mobile buyers who plan to buy Sony phones to buy iPhone which is much better than any phone in the world.
Thanks
