This complain is against Pal and Chatterjee Cricket Acedemy, located at South Kolkata, West Bengal, with its tent/venue at Vivekananda Park and registered office at 63 Hindustan Park, Kolkata - 29, primarily run and managed by Mr. Pankaj Pal.
Mr. Pankaj Pal organizes "Kolkata Corporate Cup" every year and we M/s Integrated Learning Services are participating in this tournament since 2008. We have been winners once, finalists once and semi finalists twice.
At the beginning of the season (2010-2011) Mr. Pal came to us and requested to field two teams as he was having problems with shortage of teams because of which he was unable to pull the expenses out. Since we know him for so long and we always had a cordial relationship we decided to help him out and despite being "One of the costliest tournament" (the entry fees varies from 23,000 to 21,000 Rs) in the city, we fielded two teams.
The format of the tournament is simple:
1) Gold Plate - League
2) Silver Plate - League
3) Knockout
(All 20-20 matches - Played at Vivekananda Park and Subhas Sarovar - Near 89 Cinemas on bypass)
In the gold plate one of teams that is ILS B reached the semi finals and lost out. The other team ILS A reached till finals and were defeated heavily by M/s Berger Paints, who incidentally fielded Senior Division and Bengal Under 19 players. However as we play cricket with spirit we decided not to lodge a formal complain against the team, and amicably with all cordialness accepted our defeat.
In the Knockout tournament though, both the teams performed well and ILS B reached the finals by beating M/S ICICI Bank in a thrilling competition. ILS A also reached Semifinals with all ease.
ICICI bank fielded lots of players from outside and as losers they did what is unthinkable, they lodged a official complaint against ILS B (a copy of which we received on 18th March 2011 through a mere mail forward- The Match was played on 12 Match 2011, and as per the tournament rule if any one wishes to lodge a complain they need to do it within 24 hours after the match- Which clearly never happened at this case). We immediately got in touch with Mr. Pankaj Pal and cleared our stance to him and also requested him to share the ICICI team list with us, which he never did.
Today (i.e. 09 April 2011) we ILS A reached the ground to play our semi final match we came to know that Mr. Pankaj Pal without even intimating us has eliminated ILS B from the tournament and elevated M/S ICICI Bank as a finalist.
On asking why he has done so, he said that since we did not take any step he decided to veto the tournament result and declared the finalist. Which is a gross unfair practice.
The summary:
- M/s ICICI bank did not lodged their complaint within 24 hours
- We received the complain via a mere forward after 6 days (of the match)
- We asked for M/s ICICI Bank's team list which he (Mr. Pankaj Pal) never shared with us (He did not even gave us the chance to clarify our stand)
- He decided to take a decision unilaterally and without intimating us elevated ICICI Bank as finalists.
This is unacceptable. After playing fair cricket and living with the spirit Mr. Pankaj Pal has not only cheated us but also has put his reputation at stake.
We have decided to lodge a legal suit against him and the tournament committee and will also ensure that all and every who plays corporate cricket in Kolkata gets to know about this.
