On 20th November I was travelling from Howrah Railway Station to Secunderabad by 2704 Falaknuma Exp. The food supplied in the lunch & dinner by the Panty Car was such of poor quality that even a stray dog would not like to taste the same although charging exhorbitantly. The quantity supplied was not even standard even for children. The rice supplied is of the lowest grade, the veg curry cannot be put to mouth and the puri cannot be teared since the same stuck in the mouth like chewing gum. I visited the Panty Car and searched for the complaint register. The Panty in-charge asked me about the complaint but could not produce the register to put my complaint. It is surprising that even a complaint register is not available in the Panty Car. The food articles including tea/coffee is chrged more than the market rate and better not to speak about the poor quality. This is a routine affair of the Railway Catering Services where passengers' complaints are never looked into. Similar thing is with cleanliness of the toilets inside the compartment. There is no regular cleaning of the toilets at bigger stations and not filling up the toilet tanks with water. The TTEs never listens to passenger complaints and even if they listen, they express their inability to take action to correct the things. We are in a jet age where communications have became faster. But the TTEs cannot communicte the passenger grievances to the concerned persons over their Walki talkies/cell phones/satelite phones to redress the passengers grievances. No police could be found inside the copartments, neither they check passenger luggages. Only when there are some disturbances, for intial few days, the police could be found. On other days there is lacadaisical attitude and the passengers are left to their fate. The reserved compartments are full of unreserved ticket holders and the passage near to the toilets are always full with passengers not having reservations and they lie down during the night time and day time thus creating lot of obstacles for the reserved passengers for going to toilets, particularly women passengers they feel lot of inconvenience. The TTEs most of the time absent from their respective allotted compartments and even if they are found by chance they overlook the passengers entered the compartment without reservation. Most of the complaitns to the Railways remains unanswered nor even acknowledged. I know the fate of my complaint would be thesame. Had the Railway Authority been sincere they would take immediately the following action:
(1) To check the cleanliness of the toilets - adequate cleaning in big stations with disinfectants including mosquito repellants (2) filling in the water reservoirs in the toilets at bigger stations (3) to check the quality and quantity of food supplied by the Railway Catering (4) to advice TTEs to be present in their respective compartments and the passengers without reservation not to be allowed inside (5) there must be a complaint register with the TTEs and the Pantry Car. (6) the TTEs to be provided with cell phone to contact the concerned persons for emergency (7) there should be police in every compartment with proper checking of luggage etc.
Similarly I was travelling on 18th Nov'2012 from Secundrabad to Howrah by East coast in 2AC. There wasn't any rpf personnel during that horrible train journey. Any day anti social wants to do any thing they can easily do their job without any obstruction. Surprisingly this train is not having pantry also. Toilets were so much stinky along with full of water in basin. Indian rail authority please be careful of train security, it must be done with immediate action.
