Hearing on chit fund cases remains inconclusive
Hearing on the petitions of chit fund companies, who are seeking Odisha High Court’s intervention to activate their frozen bank accounts, remained inconclusive on Monday as the companies failed to furnish the details of the investments made by the public with them. Adjudication on these cases is likely to resume next week, sources said. The Division Bench of Chief Justice C. Nagappan and Justice Indrajit Mohanti expressing displeasure over the insufficient information provided by one of the companies -- Green Ray International, asked it to provide all the details about the investors and the investments made by them since the incorporation of the company.
Green Ray International, on July 22, was asked by the High Court to furnish details. But the company on Monday provided part of the information pertaining to 2011-12 and 2012-13 financial years. The company is learnt to have gone public in 2004. It may be mentioned here that six companies, including the Green Ray International had approached the High Court alleging that they are not able to return money to the investors as the State crime branch had seized their bank accounts. The HC had earlier asked the State government to submit the case diaries of these companies.
