2 wheeler Demurrage charges - Very Higher in Southern Railway Luggage office

Demurrage receipt Number :- AR 389825 Dated 04-09-2010

I had booked the Tvs Moped ( Super Excel) in Egmore railway station on 2nd of september to Tirunelveli.

I went to Tirunelveli Luggage office on 4th of September , Afternoon 12:45 PM. The railwayauthroities informed me that the luggage should be collected with in 6 hours from the arrival time.

They demanded to pay demurrage charges about Rs 220/- for 22 hours. (Rs 10 charged for One hour)

Even during the booking ,the railway authorities has not communicated the demuurrage charges.

In booking receipt , the demurrage charges are not printed & really don't understand what's the basis on fixing high demurrage rate.

Earlier the demurrage collected at the rate of Rs 10 Per day which's charged currently Rs 10 Per hour which's 24 times higher than the previous year.

As a Indian citizen ,I would like to highlight that , the middle class category are using 2 wheelers & they are driving to pay higher rate of demurrage which's really to be viewed as equivalent to robbery.

Unfortunately there's no upfront communication about this demurrage charges or not printed in booking receipt with the bold letters.


Is there anyway to file the case against Indian Railways for overcharging the demurrage fee
