I am a software professional, female, married and a mother too.
Needless to say my daily schedule is so tight that I hardly get any time to call friends or family.
This month I had a very bad experience with Airtel Mobile service provider.
Below is my story.
Around 5 months back I switched to Airtel Postpaid mobile services from IDEA using Number Portability on my iPhone.
In addition to this, I am also having Airtel broadband connection and Airtel IPTV at home.
I never had any bad experience with Airtel until now.
I took Rs.99 Airtel Live plan. I was not aware that there is any Internet service which would be provided by default as part of this plan.
I did not need any such service either.
For first 3 months, my bill was usual below Rs. 400 as I am not frequent user of mobile.
In my March bill, I noticed a hike in y bill.
I ignored it thinking that I had made some STD calls during that period which might have caused this hike. I was not knowing that some Internet usage had been charged to my account. I had no clues. Since the amount was not that much so I didnt bother much.
But In April bill, I got a shock when I got bill of Rs. 2005 suddenly.
I am sure my actual phone usage was usual i.e. below Rs. 400.
I was not aware of any Internet service running on my phone.
There are lot of applications on my iPhone which might have caused the usage which billed to my account like automatic updates, downloads, stock markets updates, etc.
My complaint is that if I didn't request for any service how come it was activated on my mobile.
Also, why was I not informed about the same.
Now, Customer care is telling me that it is some by default service but, if thsi is true then why I started getting that service charged after 3 months where was it during first 3 months. Was it free ? Or, was it some kind of trap?
Even if Airtel wants to offer any such so called "ZERO" rental service, it should not be activated by default.
This should be activated only on customer request. Atleast customer should have this much of benefit from Renowned Service Provider like "AIRTEL".
This kind of fraud billing cause stress to the consumers and bad customer experience.
It is certainly not expected from AIRTEL.
