I had applied for renewal of my passport no: B 5008055 (Date of Issue : 18-08-2000) on 3rd May-2010 by submitting all the required forms and documents. I had police verification at my gurgaon residence on 14thJune-2010.
When even after 3 months I didn’t receive my passport, I checked passport status online, which stated :
Status online: Passport was promised for delivery by post on 14-09-2010. But it is not ready. Please meet concern Public Relation Officer.
Thereafter, I went personally on 30th September 2010 to Regional Passport Office at Bhikaji Cama Place, Delhi to meet the Public Relation Officer. He told me that police verification is incomplete and my period of stay at current residence is less than one year. So I need to submit 3 sets of Personal Particulars Form. I told him that my father had already submitted those forms few days back. But he dropped it the drop box rather than personally giving to PRO. The PRO said that they don’t entertain drop box forms. So I filled in those 3 forms there itself and submitted to him the same day.
Now I again waited for verification to take place at my place but no verification is done till date. So I personally called up DLF Phase-I , Police Station several times where I stay and asked for the status. After repeated attempts, they told me that they don’t have my file. Now the condition of less than 1yr of stay is also getting fulfilled soon as I Shifted to Gurgaon on 1st Nov 2009.
Further, there are about 10 numbers on passport website but no one picks up the phone. Only way to reach the office is to personally visit, stand in long queue and then get a reply. And what is the relevance of drop-box when PRO says they don't entertain anything from drop-box.
The second Police verification has happened on 1st November 2010. As during the last verification process we have given:
1. Copy of Rent Agreement
2. Copy of bank statement from Union Bank
Only these were the document which were required by the Officer (Mr. Charan Singh, Police Station, DLF Phase -I, Block -G). He never asked for any other document.
Now on website of passportstatus.nic.in it is mentioned that:
"You have failed to prove your stay/produce date/place of birth documents as per police report, pls. send 3 personal particulars forms for re-verification and also clarify"
Why in India a common man has to go through so much mental harassment and torture by authorities. Though we believe the said officer should have asked us for the relevant documents, even passport authority should ask for only pending documents and not the entire procedure again. The authority needs to understand mental agony a person has to go through when a renewal of passport becomes such a long and tiresome process. We have already gone through this pain twice in last couple of months.
I would humbly request to take this matter appropriately in the better interest of society. We are not required to go through these suffering which have been asked by the passport authority.
