The Casa major road on which Don Bosco is located at Egmore, Chennai is quite narrow. For many people driving to Mount Road (LIC, Shanthi or Spencer\'s Plaza area) from places like Kilpauk, Anna Nagar and Purasaiwakkam, this road serves as the only viable connection. For the other alternatives like College Road is too long and circuitous and the Police Commissioner\'s Road (through Egmore Station intersection) is high in traffic almost all through the day.

And the school is doing no help to the heavy traffic plying through this road. Actually it is making the problem much worse. Most of the students who come here are being dropped and picked up in their own cars. This causes the road to be in a state of eternal traffic jam. Parents and drivers park the cars on the road sides (both ways) trying to wait to pickup or drop their kids.

Even though there is a no entry imposed in this road from the museum direction until like 10 A.M. everyday (There is another small road that also serves as a bus route and traffic can pour in even during these hours.), it doesnt help as the school timings seem pretty spread out.

To add salt to the injury, the school has an auditorium on the other side of the road which is frequently leased to private functions and parties. This results in more vehicles parked on the road sides.

The traffic police do try their best to not let the cars stop on the road sides, but the school ground seems to send out an endless supply of cars to both directions, suffocating vehicles on both sides.

Some really serious study of the traffic here should be done and a viable solution should be arrived at to solve this problem. The school should ban students being dropped and picked up on personal vehicles. Why cant they let school busses do the job and save petrol and time (of thousands of people)? Or there should be a fly over for the road (logically tough though because of the width of the road and the other useless bridge on the museum side). Any solution would need a lot of help from the school management. Not even sure if they are even aware of the situation. Or may be they just dont care.
