Complaint by: KC Antony on October 31, 2014, 11:08 am in Indian Railways

I would like to submit few lines for the kind information of competent railway authorities.
• That I was waiting for the train No. 16360 – PNBE ERS Express on 21/10/2014 at Varanasi Railway Station. The scheduled arrival time of this train at Varanasi Railway Station was 20:55 hrs.
• That about 19:00 hrs it was displayed on the display board that the train No. 16360 – PNBE ERS Express would be reaching Varanasi Railways Station at 21:40 hrs only at Platform No.1.
• That accordingly all the passengers were gathered at Platform No.1 and around the arrival time of the train announcement was also made that the train would be reaching shortly at Platform No.1.
• That when the train expected to come at Platform No.1 as per the announcement, a local intercity train placed at Platform No.1 without any announcement.
• That when the intercity train expected to move from the platform No.1 there was an announcement that the train No. 16360 – PNBE ERS Express would be coming at Platform No.2.
• That on hearing the announcement all the passengers was moved to Platform No.2. and again it was announced the train No. 16360 – PNBE ERS Express would be coming shortly at platform No.2
• That when all the passengers were reached at Platform No.2 again there was an announcement that the train No. 16360 – PNBE ERS Express would be coming at Platform No.1.
• That on hearing the announcement all the passengers were again rushed to Platform No.1 and finally the train arrived at about 22:30 hrs.
In view of the above, what I want to communicate that when it was decided & planned that train No. 16360 – PNBE ERS Express, a long running train, would be reaching at Platform No.1 why the local intercity train was allowed to come on Platform No.1 instead of placing the train on the vacant Platform No.2? What was the need of changing the platform for the train No. 16360 – PNBE ERS Express when it was preplanned that the train No. 16360 – PNBE ERS Express would be coming at Platform No.1 and when the intercity train was expected to move out from the Platform No.1 what was the need of announcing for the change of platform? Even though the local train was placed at Platform No.1 the railway authorities should have to wait till the move out of the local train for the placement of train No. 16360 – PNBE ERS Express instead of changing the platform all of sudden making the passengers in awkward condition.
Further, It was observed that on hearing the announcement some of the passengers moved from Platform No. 1 to 2 by crossing railway track instead of going through the over bridge. They were having heavy luggage and also some of the ladies having small kids in their hand alongwith the luggage. It is needless to mention that such crossing, due to last moment announcement of platform, was a way of accident purely created by the railway authorities due to their mismanagement. It is a known fact that such platform crossing is always accidentable but passengers are always in hurry and in anxiety that they never want to miss the train even after waiting for hours together. Such type of last moment change in platform may always bring accident. To avoid such situation, especially for long running trains, railway authorities should stick to the plan in placing the train on the platform itself once the Platform No. is announced. Hope the competent authorities of railway will throw a light in this direction to avoid any untoward incident in future.
At the same time, I would like to take this opportunity in congratulating our Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi ji in launching “Clean India Campaign” or “Swachh Bharat”. It has been observed that as a result of this campaign Varanasi Railway Station has been found shining. Also in other parts of the country, especially in Kerala, many of the railway stations has been found quite neat and clean. I would like to urge that that this Clean India Campaign should not be limited to October month but it should be continued to keep our nation spic-and-span.
Regards
KC Antony
