Complaint by: Col Sundram on August 22, 2010, 11:02 pm in Cars Parts and Vehicles

Poor quality control and defects in brand new car. I had taken my car from Om Sai Motors Kandivli (W). My car Reg No. is MH 43 AB 9067 on August 16, 2010 and had only driven it till my society and parked it, until I really took the car for a long drive to Mahad and back on Sunday, August 22, 2010. The problems that I have noticed are shocking and to my disbelief tata motors claiming that they are up to standards. Just of trust I didn't drive the vehicle much and covered it with a cover thinking that all is alright. I am a Colonel and am an Army Officer (retd) and disabled having lost my right leg more than 80% and I have saved every penny of my earnings and decided to buy this car. This is what Tata has done to me. I had choices of Maruti and others, but still made up my mind to buy this car. Now, I am totally distrustful of Tata ever. I had heard that you can buy a Maruti blindfolded and have any kind of problem in one car of the 1000 you choose, but the opposite is the case with a tata car is kind of a lottery if you get a fully 100% functional car in a 1000. I thought tata had moved up its engineers and quality control team up to standards, but sorry to tell it is the same old story with tata cars. I had a indigo before this car in 2004 and faced lot of problems for which the details are still with your customer service and had offered to gift it free to Mr. JRD Tata. Coincidence that it was the same dealer. Now, follow the details of the shameful quality control being done by Tata Motors.

1. Fogging of front headlamps which is a very serious offence as water is getting inside the glass which means electric wires are involved, which could mean malfunctioning of other electric components too and could mean harm to anyone.

2. Fuel gauge indicator works whenever it wants to. The needle is sometimes below empty and above full like it is a broken needle. Then suddenly when it wants it becomes proper. So, I have a doubt if it is indicating rightly which could mean panic unneccesarily and again harm to anyone.

3. Central locking automatically locks when the car is in motion after 5 mins. Again this is erratic and more often than not, which again could mean harm by getting into panic unnecessarily.

4. The seatbelt not on buzzer is continously buzzing and doesn't stop. This I agree is a safety feature, but one would like to just sit in a motionless car without a panic buzzing that something is wrong.

5. Buzzer for car door open doesn't buzz at all, which again could mean that I have a half closed door but still driving as I don't know unless bypassers warn me it is half open, which again could mean danger in the sense if AC is on it is leaking through the passage of the open door and we would feel hot in the car leading to suffocation, etc.

6. The wipers don't cleanse properly and make a rubbing noise against the front pane which again means I have to judiciously use the wiper which in turn could mean harm if my vision is obstructed.

7. Also I was offered the first car of a fresh stock of the above-mentioned dealer telling me that the car I booked was in transit and was this month's stock. However, on checking the owner's manual, I had found a heading of PDI and the date was 07/07/2010. I would like to know what exactly this means as I have not been explained about functions of the car, stereo, electronic symbols, what to do and etc. about the car before delivery.

8. Another pen written on a page had mentioned tyre sizes of 1120, 1130, 1130, 1130. According to my suspicion I would assume that it had something to do with tyre size, which again could mean harm by tampering with a car.

9. Also, I had Teflon coating done on the car before delivery and I have noticed on the left front passenger door that there is an impression under the paint of the body, which looks like someone could have done a careless job of painting or else someone could have dented and done a cover job of sorts and also the paint spilled on the handle very unusually. Also not on the priority but how would I know I have received a drivetech 4 without any mention of it anywhere. It could be anything but is not on the priority but is a concern nevertheless.

I would have some more complaints I am sure, just that I drive the car with trust of only fill it, drive safely, and do regular maintanences.

Because it is my every penny involved I read the manual and hence have known all these things else it was a matter of trust and knowing that tata would deliver a car up to expectations.

As I am a handicapped person with a triad of other health problems cannot go up and down to the service center if you would want it checked. Please find out a solution and call me and talk to me about it, so I can regain my trust with Tata again. Also I have some commitments and hence have bought this car for my personal needs and couldn't have you spend the whole day or 2 or more with the car in your service centre, whereas all of these problems shouldn't have been there in the first place.

Worriedly,

I support this complaint.

At the onset it is very disheartening to note that you are facing issues like these with a new vehicle. I am a tata vehicle owner too and have been having a lot of trouble with TATA Motors' service, spares, etc. and am looking at initiating legal action against them. If your problems have not been solved by TATA Motors, I would request you to kindly get in touch with me on my mobile no. ********43 so that we could work together and teach TATA Motors a lesson they will not forget.

I am a resident of Mumbai and have already spoken to a number of people who have been having a lot of issues similar to the ones you have been facing and are willing to join me in initiating legal action against TATA Motors.

Once I have your details and information about the problems faced by you, I can forward the same to capable solicitors and we shall initiate the legal action against TATA Motors.

Kindly be advised that all legal costs shall be borne by all participants equally and proportionally, hence you need not worry about spending a lot of money.

Also, if you know of other people, in Mumbai, kindly ask them to contact me and I shall be more than happy to help them out too.

Hope, you will join us in our fight against sub standard services and defective products from TATA Motors and teach them a good lesson, they will not soon forget.

Wishing you all the best.

Regards,
Sameer Shahani.
