Bandra's Lucky Hotel is a famous landmark for its Biryani but going by it's latest tendencies, it may be more famous & worthy of an award for the amount terrible traffic snarls & difficulty in negotiation of the signal for many Bandraites. I say this mainly because the traffic on the North~South corridor are invariably moving in the forward or backward direction but for Bandraites, they are either going away from their homes or returning to them in peak & off peak hours! It's a major cumbersome problem & a permanent headache who wish to exit or enter Hill Road. In fact this stretch is one of the biggest bottlenecks inn Bandra because 4 roads converge onto a small measly signal but the amount of buses, trucks, autos & taxis have grown exponentially

One could pin the blame on the skywalk which has reduced the carriageway of the underpass road to a significant extent plus also the roaring businesses of shops below the causeway. Nevertheless not much heed has been paid to the traffic signalling & management system here as many vehicles crowd the roads with no proper sense & sensibilities of others. Buses are major offenders wherein for a left turn at the petrol pump they camp in the middle of the road with a left signal indicator leaving many vehicles behind gasping & fuming when they are denied the right to cross the signal.

Another reason is the electronic timers for Bandra Railway Station to Hill Road are improperly set leaving the SV Road traffice gleeful with joy for their constant rite of passage at the expense of their poor Hill Road & Bandra Station cousins who often come unstuck & burdened with huge delays waiting for the signals to change. Agonizing waits, jumping signals & a major crisis at mid-intersection with a barrage of vehicles has left this signal with the enormous task of having to shake off its near notorious image.

With anywhere close to 30 lakhs of vehicles on Mumbai, surely the best we could do to improve welfare of motorists would be to have efficient, & plentiful signalling systems to prevent inconveniences & inconsistencies like this. If Mumbai is to attain the shape & being of a global metro then surely, better signalling is the need of the hour!

This is a chronic issue which has now snowballed into a major controversy. As more cars, buses, transport vehicles claim the space on Hill Road more than ever!
